Main street wiEI continue under stateRegardless of the new bypass, Main street from Seventh to the city limits will continue to be a primary 1'ghway, the state department of highways has announced.The bypass was expected to become the new' 218-61 sys-tem, with eastbound traffic coming from the Seventh street bridg® ah the way to Main street and then across the river, and a ruling was made on Sept. 4, 1957, to this effect.This ruling was recently rescinded, however, and the highway alternate will con tinue to be out Main street. Tins means that. the state will continue to be responsible forthe upkeep of Main streetsince Main down to Second is also lT S. Highway 196.
