Lieut. Col. James B. League, Jr. Assumes Com mand of Fifty-Ninth Fight er Group Under orders of the Command ing General, IIT Fighter command, L lieutenant Colonel James B. Lea gue, Jr. has assumed command of the Fifty-ninth Fighter Group at Thomasville Army Air Field, vice Lieutenant Colonel W. R. Clinger man, transferred. Colonel League is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He attended The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina, attaining a B.S. in civil engineering. He is a graduate of the Primary and Basic Flying schools at Ran dolph Field and of the Advanced Flying school at Kelly Field, Texas, in 1983. He has a rating of senior pilot, having obtained more than two thousand flying hours. Colonel League was commission ed a second lieutenant in 193% and has been a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps since 1933. Be fore the United States entered the war and until after the outbreak of hostilities, Colonel League was stationed in Puerto Rico, one of the bastions in the defense of the Pa nama Canal. He came to the Fifty-nineh Figh ter Group from Headquarters Army Air Forces, Washington, D. C., where he served under the As sistant Chief of Air Staff, training. Mrs. James B. League, Jr., for merly Molly Masters of Hampton, Virginia, is presently at their Vir ginia home with their two children, James B. League, III, age eight, and Mary Whiting League, age two.
