Many items of interest Ascalied by The Star Correspondent. JACKSONVILLE, Oct. 29— The minstrel and supper which were given at the Normal school chapel Monday evening were a signal suc cess. The evening was one of rare enjoyment to every one present. An interesting and well-execued program was enjoyed by a large audience, after which refreshments consisting of raw, fried and stewed oysters, sherbet and cake were served. The building was decorate with ferns and autumne leaves and profusely lighted with Japanese lanterns, whch added to the at tractivenes of the building consid erably. The entertainment was given for the benefit of the Jack sonville football club. After having spent the summer at various points in Tennessee and Georgia, Mr. Ted Blackmore and family have returned to Jackson ville, where they shall remain duris ing the winter. Mr. Blackmore has rented the opera house and promises some good attractions for the season. Mr. J. O. Gaboury and family have returned to their home in Greenville, Miss., after spending several months at their summer residence here. There was a practice game of ootball played on the local gridiron Tuesday evening between the Nor mal school and scrub teams. The scraobs were defeated by a score of 12 to 0, but they played a fast game notwithsanding. The school eleven is in daily practice prepratory to a game with the Birmingham High School boys, which is to come off at this place on Saturday the 31. The Jackson ville boys have a heavy eleven and are confident of success. Mr. W. ©. Sargent has accepted a position in the Tredgar National bank as book keeper. Misses Maude Dixon and Bertie Hendrix, who spent last week among their many friends here have returned to their home, in Talladega, Misses Dixon and Hendrix are former pupils of the Normalse 100 at this place. While out driving last Saturday evening Misses Eva Privett and Effie Mitchell, accompanied by Mr. Hill, of Rome, narrowly escaped what might have been a serious accident. While crossing a ditch on Francis avenue, the front part of the trapp in some way became uncoupled from the body of the vehicle, and the occupants were thrown heavily to the ground. The horses became frightened and Mr. Hill, who held to the reins was dragged for some distance and bod y skinned and bruised. Miss Maggie Wandless, of De troit, Mich., has accepted the position of instructor in expression and domestic science at the Strate Normal school at this place.
