Scoring 14 points in the first period, and another 14 in the third, Gardner’s Trailblazers coasted to an easy 28-14 Pioneer League triumph against DeSoto last night. Following the opening kickoff, Paul Grahovac scored on a 42-yard run. The point-after touchdown attempt, on a run, failed. With 2:37 left in the first stanza, Steve Cordell scored on a four-yard pass from Jim Her man. He added the PAT. There was no scoring in the second. Gardner picked up two more TDs in the third. Herman scored on a one-yard plunge with 1:15 left. And then four plays later, he crossed DeSoto’s goal again—this time from six yards out. Don Meyer added two points to the Gardner total as he tallied the PAT on a pass from Herman. DeSoto finally broke the ice in the fourth. Hank Kreamer went one yard for the first Wildcat TD. Roger Phillips scored the PAT on a pass from Kreamer. And with 1:13 left in the game, Kreamer went three yards on a run. The conversion failed on a pass. Gardner’s record now stands at 5-3 on the campaign, and the Trailblazers currently hold down third place in Pioneer loop standings. DeSoto is fourth. Coach Jerry Roberts praised his entire defensive unit for outstanding play. He also praised Grahovac and Kershner. Roberts said Herman played a good contest.
