George S. Lobdell, who passed away at his home at Pierrepont Oct. 9 after an illness of several weeks following an operation from which he never fully recovered, had a most interesting life. He was born at Hannawa Falls on Feby. 10, 1890, the son of Charles and Edith Bancroft Lobdell. His early life was spent in Pierrepont. He fitted for college at Colton High School, graduating therefrom. He then entered Clarkson College, where he specialized in chemistry and chemical engineering. He was one of the top men of his class. He graduated from Clarkson in 1916 and immediately became an instructor in that college, in chem istry, holding this position until 1930, when he went with the Gen eral Cable Corporation at Rome, N. Y., as a research chemist. He spent three years in that work and then returned to Pierrepont, where he made his home for the past eight years. He was elected a member of the town board, serving as justice of the peace and took an interest in town government as well as state and national affairs. He had not been of robust health for some period. He was happily married to Miss Harriet Transeau on August 9, 1922, who with two daughters, the Misses Mary and Betty Lobdell, re main. His father, Charles Lobdell, well known Pierrepont farmer, is living. All reside at Pierrepont Centre. Miss Betty Lobdell, a daughter, has her picture in this month’s 4-H News, on account of her 4-H Club activities. The funeral was conducted at the Lobdell home the Sunday fol lowing his death, the Rev. Hugh S. Tigner, pastor of the First Uni versalist Church of Canton offi ciating. Burial was made at Pierre pont Cemetery. iMy, Lobdell was a member of Racket River Lodge 213, F. A. M. The Lobdell family is one of the very early families of the town of Pierrepont. One recalls the first Lobdell as coming into the town over a hundred years ago and set tling land that was for generations in the family. Ezra Lobdell and la ter on Charley Lobdell and other Lobdells were sturdy pioneering people of the town of Pierrepont. The name of Lobdell still persists and the stock is still virile.
