JAMES WHARTON—Editor The regular six weeks report ecards were given out on Wednes day. On the average the reports throughout the building were very satisfactory. Many of the students received very high averages for work well done. In some cases failures were reported, due per haps to indifference toward high school work. In some instances , a few students are on the high hon or roll, a list of which will be pub lished soon. The Artcraft club held its sec ond meeting October 19. Miss Wen rick, the club advisor, gave an inter esting talk on cartooning. The Girl Reserves of Central High held their first regular meet in at the Y. W. C. A. October 18. During the meeting games were played and there was a short dis cussion on “How do you like your nickname? The election of offi cers will take place at the next meeting. The Chemcraft club held its meeting Friday, October 19. The folowing committees were appoint ed: program committee—William Fenwick, Robert Aice, Charles Scott, Milton Sweeney, and Carlisle Carl, Constitution committee- Marp Herps, Clifford Gehran, Har old Turney, Russel Bordner and Clarence Allison. A freshie leaned over the gas tank. The height of the contents to see. A match he did strike to assist him. Oh, bring back my freshie to me. By a Freshman. The Scouting club held its second meeting October 19. The following committees were appointed: Program committee— Henry Watkins, Edmund Geer and Arthur Jarrett. The nominating committee—Harry Mauer, Earnest Schibler and Thurman Master. Af ter the committees were appointed Mr. Blue gave an interesting talk about his first canoe trip. Tickets for the Marine Band, benefit of Boy Scouts, are being sold at Central High for 25¢. The concert will be a rare treat for the students and the cause is a worthy one. Next week the Teachers of Northeastern Ohio will be in at tendance at the annual gathering of the State Teachers’ association. The meetings will be held on Fri day and Saturday. Various changes in the high school library are being made. Only, the reference books are left in the study hall. All other texts and books of fiction are being placed in Room 17 for circulation purposes. The clubs at Central High are now all well organized and many new members are being added to the several clubs. After last Fri day no more changes in the per sonnel of the clubs will be permit ted. EIGHTH GRADE NEWS We are going to have a Hallow een social Friday afternoon. We have decorated our room with Hal loween trimmings. We received our report cards and most of us are pleased with them. Those students on the honor roll are as follows: Mildred Mott, Vera Somner, Adeline Trombetta and Blanche Russell. Our class will visit the George D. Harter bank next Tuesday, to help us understand more about banking. BLANCHE RUSSELIS Pditor on and we hope that each child will be represented by a_ visitor. Remember the date, November 18 to November 23. All our teachers are members of the Northeastern Teachers’ As sociation as well as members of the Canton Teachers’ club. We will have no school November 2 in or der that the teachers may attend the meeting at Cleveland. Miss Krapps, the new art teach er, paid us her first visit on Fri day. We certainly enjoyed her work and wish she could come oftener. Now we are anxiously awaiting a visit from the physical director, Mr. Smith. We would like to be gin our physical exercises under his directions also. It is being whispered that some thing wonderfully nice is to hap pen to us next Wednesday, Octo ber 31. The date makes us think of something. We are all going to be on hand that day. Our electric bell has been fixed, so it can be rung from either floor. It sure rings loud enough now, so we can hear it when we have a fire drill. FIGHTH GRADE Halloween is growing nigh and we are having our Spelling contest. The side that loses gives the win ners a Halloween’ party. The A side is ahead with three more 100’s than the B's. The B side has been gaining. We have thirty-eight pupils. We had 31 bank depositors and$13.44. The following pupils are on the honor roll: Marjorie Rees, Alice Masters, Irene Lothamer, Ray Nave, Mary Ellen Bachtel, Dwight Daniels, Isabel Paul, Mary Patter son and Mariella Jones. Ida Garvin of our room has been absent because of quarantine in the home. The pupils of our class are sending her Halloween cards. = * We are looking forward to No vember which is Canton month. Every pupil In our room has been assigned a topic to talk on before the class. If it is a good one they will be sent around 4 speak to the younger children who are not cap able of looking it up. We are all anxious to be chosen as special speakers. SEVENTH GRADE Again we fell before the thrift iness of the sixth grade. We are saving hard to capture the picture, “The Spring Song.’ next Tuesday. This week we had 29 depositors out of an enrollment of 42 pupils and $6.76. Now lets all pull to gether for next week. Just to show you what we think of our new art teacher, Miss Ritter after Miss Krapps had left the room— I'm sure we are going to like our new art teacher very much. Voice of big boy in back of the room, “I do!” Miss Krapps gave_us some clever ideas for Halloween drawings, which we have enjoyed working out. Hist! and a_ secret you shall hear! A Halloween party is in progress and so we must be very good. FIFTH GRADE We have 42 pupils enrolled and had 30 depositors in banking and $5.84. It was the best we have had since school started. Charles Belle was absent Mon day and Tuesday. * Friday was the day Miss Wiley was on the playground and the girls gave her a beautiful fruit basket. Wanda Zalesky did not miss a word in spelling for the six weeks. * SIXTH GRADE We have had 100 percent in banking and have went away for our buttons. We also got the bank ing picture for the grades upstairs. ~ * We have had perfect attendance for one week. We have the Percent Teachers’ meeting picture and wish to keep it next month, too. Fighteen pupils of our class had 100 percent In the spelling test this week. We wish to have a litle more next week than we did this week. The ones that had 106 this week are: Mildred Marier and Kathryn Von Gunton, Michael Jennet, David Richards, David Gheenbaum, Robert Rees, Vera Slade, Vera Beatty, Violet Lisicki, Ethel Kaplan, Earl Jones, Roberta, Ralph, Gertrude, Dorothy Nave. FOURTH GRADE Tuesday, bank day, was a source of great rejoicing for our fourth grade as we had 190 percent in banking and so our room received the picture given by our principal. * We have had splendid attend of illness, once since school started and hope to keep it up. Our reading circle book is very interesting. FOURTH GRADE The other fourth grade beat us in banking by one point. We hope to get the picture next time. We are sorry to report that An na Maister and Sara Samuels and David Adleman are absent this week because of illness. On Tuesday we had a visit from the Junior Daily News reporter. SECOND GRADE Those who had 100 in spelling all last week are: Frances Mary Ley shon, Eileen Shaw, Selma Simon, Minnie Spaan, Bruce Jones and Jack Taylor. We had 30 depositors on bank day. There are only five children in our room who have not started a bank account. We are sorry we can not have 100 percent in bank ing. We are enjoying our new read ing circle books. We are reading the third one now. Those who had the highest grades on their report cards are: Frances Mary Leyshon, Dorothy Bell, Anna Herbar, Selma Simon, Minnie Spaan and Alberta Lant zer. We had two normal visitors on Thursday.
