Six huge, potatoes- aggregating 20 pounds in• weight were brought to' Mivef city this morning, says (the Columbian, by Mr. A. L. Bates, of I, Matsqui Prairie and will be placed on exhibition in .the office of the Secretary of the Board of Trade, as an ^evidence of, wliat this fertile section1 of the Eraser Valley can produce. 'The tubers were all unusually large and one of them a-lonc weighed nearly four, pounds, some oXc he potatoes -are/ of the Maggie Murphy variety and the others were./known as Gem of Ar-istuke. lt;.Mr. Bates informed a representa tive that he had taken 18 tons of tatoes off one acre of land this year and the six which he-brought to the city.,were part of.ithht crop Several of the potatoes weighed ioily four pounds and after seeing the..samples which he brought -in thU morning no one was prepa ed-. to. .doubt ; him. The spuds in question were grown on high land and did better this year than those grown 04* tha low lying lands.
