Bridge went to North Manchester Saturday morning and returned with a man who is supposed to know considerably more about the robbing ofthe Farmers’ Bank at this place on the morning of September 27, than he cares to tell. The sheriff took the prisoner before J us-tice Co6ter. but he waived examination and was bound over to court in the sum of $1500. He will lie in jail until January, unless he furnishes baii. and duringthis time and the time his case iscalled he will have ample time to find persons who are willing to | swear as to where he was and what he was doing at the time: the robbery was committed.The man gave ius name as James Ward and was arrested onan affidavit filed by Rev. J. C. Anderson, pnstorof the Christian church at this place, who has been working on the case. Mr. Anderson feeis positive that Ward was in Flora the week of the robbery and it is said he has evidence sufficient to warrant his action. The prisoner claims he never was in Flora in his life.Ward is a nice looking fellow.about thirty-five years of age, and was well dressed. He says he is married, that nis family lives in the East and that he is a horse “swiper” by profession.It is said he “fell in” with a woman at North Manchester a few weeks ago and has spent lots of money on her. He bought her fine clothes, and took her to see the sights at Niagara Falls, and had much more money than often falls to the lot of the ordinary horse “swiper.” He was at the home of tne woman’s brother when arrested by the marshal of North Manchester.Ward has been in the Carroll county jail before. He is said to have spent s five dollar bill which has been identified by Mr. Lenon as port of the money stolen from the bank.Those who are working on the case claim to have a new clew which they believe is important, and which may lead to the arrest of some person heretofore unsuspected. It is said there arc articles of value missing from the bank which were not in the vault, but which were secreted is a place where they could noi have been found by persons whc did not know their exact locatior without disturbing other articles which were apparently nevei touched. This clsw is regarded as an important one and somlt; sensational developments may blt; expected at any time.A man has been discovered whlt; will swear that a certain persoi offered him 910 each for a copj of each of the Flora papers giv ing an account of the robbery The fellow has been spotted ant it is thought he wanted the pap ers for something more thai mere souvenirs.Monday morning Mr. Lenoi begun paying off the depositor in the looted bnk and it is under stood that they have all reoeivet their money.
