Laurel's traditional Christmas Parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3, promises to be bigger and better than ever “This year's parade will again feature Santa Claus and will involve the whole area,’ Lyon Herrington, projects chairman for the Sertoma Club, said today. “There will be a longer route, with more bands, floats and marching units than last year, and it will be bigger and better than ever .We already have com mitments from the Jones County Junior College band, Sertoma and other civic clubs and several churches,” Herrington said. “Last year, there were 110 entires with about 10 floats and six or seven bands. This year we hope to double the number of floats and have between 10 and 15 bands,” he said. “We also plan to invite bands from Collins, Bay Springs, Richton and other surroun ding communities.” ‘We hope to have at least 150 entrants in the parade,” he added “The theme of the parade is ‘keep Christ in Christmas,’ and prizes and trophies will be awarded to winning floats, ’ he said. “The 1983 parade should be a true county-wide event We are going all out to have participation from the en tire community,’ Her rington said. ‘I believe that we will attract many more floats, bands and other par ticipants than we have ever had.”’ The parade will form on Mason Street near Sawmill Square Mall and then follow Beacon Street to Carroll Gartin Boulevard, then to Magnolia Street, Sawmill Road and back to Mason Street The combined efforts of the Downtown Merchants Association, Sawmill Square Merchants Associa tion and merchants in the Gardiner Center are taking care of the parade's expenses, and the Laurel Jaycees and Sertoma Club are in charge of the pa rade's organization Entry forms for the pa rade will be printed in the Leader-Call next week, and Herrington said any groups or individuals who are in terested in entering — the Christmas Parade may call him at 6491977 or Guy McCardle at 4253394
