Y#Evening TelegramLocal Man Assured by Baseball Leader That Statements Attributed to Him Hitting at Florida Invesments Are FalseA writer in The New York Evening Telegram, has been •ihown up as an infamous liar, by Hughie Jennings, assistant manager of the New York Giants baseball team, and this expose of the writer which placed him as a member of the Ananias Club was through the efforts of Ray Weed, one »f Sarasota’s greatest boosters.Mr. Weed states that on September 21, The New York Telegram carried a story to the effect that Hughie Jen-ings had been interviewed and that he had authorized the statement that Florida’s “bubble” was about to burst, and hat he (Hughie Jennings) was going to sell out his prop-iryt in Sarasota.Mr. Weeed wrote Hughie Jennings at his home in Seran-_on. Pa., calling his attention to the article, and received he following reply from him:“I did not see The New York Telegram of September 21st, therefore don’t know what the article contained.“1 did not authorize any interview being printed about Sarasota, or any part of Florida.“My holdings are too valuable to do anything but boost, and if I cannot boost I certainly will not knock.”It is too well known locally that Mr. Jennings, John Mc-Graw and several other members of the New York Giants, own considerable property in Sarasota and Sarasota county.
