URANIUM AND 'VANADIUM ATTRACTING ATTENTION !Uranium and Vanadium depos- j its located in Utah, a dozen miles ; southeast and west from Green River in Emery and Grand coun- 'i ties, have just been under in* ; spection by Kirby Thomas of New York, one of the best , known mining engineers in the ’ west Thomas made the exam- 1 ination in behalf of eastern capitalists who have extensive hold* «■ ings there and at Newmire, just 1 over the state line in Colorado. lt;Thomas is not at liberty to talk on what he found, and, in fact is J not yet in position, as his sam-. lings have not been in the hands 1 of assayers. He said, however, 1 that he found some very rich uranium ore, and evidences of i vanadium in the vicinity of Green i River. Whether it exists there 1 in paying commercial quantities is a question yet to be solved, as , so far very little development work has been done. I“These fields are attracting a good deal of interest, as right j now there seems to be an unsatisfied demand particularly for uranium,” says Thomas. “This ore makes in the bedding deposits in the sand stone; sometimes near the lime. Just why this de- | mand for uranium and what Is lt;to be done with the metal 1% am ' at loss to say. The vanadium is 1 now being extensively used In lt;the steel business, removing the * oxygen and greatly strengthening the metal.” j
