In the nex year lie icmovcil iVoin Bath to Kingston, mid purchased the drug shop of the late Mr. Binlcy, which lie still keeps.The knowledge of the grant did not take wind immediately; it was kept snug and quiet. In the spring of this year, it became rumored about Ernest Town, that Mr. Baker was making spphcation for a grant of laud, and instantly a commotion was raised in all classes. A Mr. Patrick Mugee, an in--divulonl who considered himself injured by some former act of Bakers, petitioned the Governor, stating hrs knowledge of the man, nnd praying that no such grant be made. This petition, which bears date, June 23ud, 1833. contains several allegations against the character of Baker, and details tlietrans-action of the seizure of the waggon and horses for waggling. It was nnsweied by Col. Rowan to the effect, that a grant ofSOt acres had been made in die year 1833, and that it had not been effected through the interposition of Mr. Hngerman. It enclosed a copy of a ceitificatc by the Adjutant Gene--ral, stating that Mr. Baker had scried as a Surgeon onboard the Earl Moiru, provincial sloop of war. ■brhceeii the 1st of July and 20th Nov. 1912. Failing in his fust petition, Mr Magee petitioned die Governor in Council, and also was instrumental in obtaining another petition, signed by 33 landowners,praying His Majesty's Government to rescind the grant, on account of un worthiness on the part ot the grantee ; and staling several things, which need not he here repeated. Together with these two petitions, there was also forwarded tlt;» the seat of government, an affidavit by P.
