All Hornet Dad’s will be honored in pre-game ceremonies. The District 17AA clash between the Eagles and Hornets will be staged on Hornet Field Friday, October 27 with kick-off time set for 7:30 p.m.Last year the Eagles beat the Hornets 33-8 in Hearne.The Eagles will enter the game with a record of three wins three losses and a tie. They are 0-1 in district play, losing to Cameron 28-0. The Hornets have a season record of two wins, four losses and a tie. They are 0-2 in District competition losing to Giddings 13-5, and Cameron 14-13. Hearne holds wins over Franklin 30-0, Burnet 30-7 and Bishop Forrest of Schulenberg 20-15. Their losses outside of district were to Mexia 18-0 and Elgin 22-16. The opening hymn was “Jesus, My Lord, My God.” The Bible study entitled “He is Lord of the Church” was given by Mrs Leonard Brinkman.Mrs. Leroy Schwartz called the business meeting to order, Mrs. Marvin Laffere acted as secretary, and Mrs. Floyd Swonke took up the offering and offered thanks in return.the “T” formation. Their leading ball carriers are Ken Johnson and Cary Hadaway, both of whom are good runners. Elmo Hawthorne, a tackle, is their leading player in the line. He plays middle guard on defense.Coach Morns Stone said this week that Mike Balcar, who has been out of action for a couple of weeks because of an injury, will return to the line-up this week on defense.The probable Hornet offensive starting line-up as named by Coaches Morris Stone and Bryant Stone is:Defensively Charles Rosas and Elton Davis will be at ends; Bruce Cowen and Gregory Ko-eurek at tackles and Eddie Ellis at middle guard. Hornet Allen Garbs fielded the punt on his own 20 yard line and picked up several good blocks, side stepped a man, and raced 80 yards for the Hornets first six pointer. The try for point was wide, leaving the score Caldwell 6 and Cameron 0.On the following kick-off Cameron returned to their own 17 yard line. On first down Cameron fumbled and Bobby Piwonka pounced on the ball for the Hornets at the 16. On first down Robert Kocurek picked up five yards. On second down Dick Bowers added 2, and on third down Kocurek got two more. With fourth and one from the seven Kocurek carried for three to the 4. On the first play Bowers moved the ball to the one. Two plays later Kocurek carried over for the six points. He also kicked the PAT, and Caldwell led 13-0.Cameron’s deepest penetration in the first half was the Hornet 38 yard line where quarterback Gienn Fogle fumbled, and Gregory Kocurek recovered forthe Hornets.The second half proved to bedifferent story as Cameron took the second half kickoff and moved to the Hornet 23 yard line before losing the ball to a stubborn Hornet defense. The Caldwell offense unable to move were forced to punt on fourth down from their 28. The punt was returned to the Hornet 49 yard line. Once again the Yeomen marched goal ward and got to the 22 before a fumble occurred, and Elton Davis recovered for the Hornets. The third period ended with Caldwell still owning the lead 13-0.On the third play of the final quarter Cameron quarterback Glenn Fogle kept the ball and ran 36 yards for Cameron’s first six-pointer of the night.
