A. D. MEREDITH-BEAUFORT IN DARKNESS.By the spirit manifested by Mr. Beaufort in his defense for Rev. McLain in baseball playing I perceive that he is In the gall of bitterness, and the bond of iniquity.” Acts 8:23. And my desire is that I may be instrumental in getting Mr. Beaufort out of the hole, and Bro. McLain *way from the bat; realizing that if Rev. McLain is called of God to preach His gospel, that his calling is far above that of batting a baseball. And as for Bro. Bush, I am willing to stand on deck with him and watch the howling blasts of the approaching. storms in these perilous times.' This know, also, that in the last days perilous times will come; for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blastphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.” 2 Tim. 3-12.Mr. Beaufort starts out by saying that if he mistakes not, Bro. Hannah is a sanctified Baptist. In order to remove every doubt from his mind, I answer, that I ain; and I am glad to do so because of the following rea sons given in God’s Word:In Heb., 2:10-11, we read:For it became him, for whom are all things, in bringing many (sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified are all of one: for , which couse he is not ashamed to I call them brethren.: Again, in Heb. 10:10: By thewhich will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Again in Heb., 10:14, we find this language: For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. And Heb. 13-12: WhereforeJesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his blood, suffered without the gate. ”In 1 Thes., 5:23, we read: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Ixrd Jesus ( hrist. ’ In Eph., 5:26 27, when Paul speaking of Christ and the church, says: That he mightsanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; hut. that it should be holy and without blemish.”Mr, Beaufort says thot I, as a Baptist, ought to give my own j denomination the benefit of my righteous thunder. To this, I will say that 1 am acquainted wrth a number of leading Baptist ministers and have never j known one to engage in a baseball game. I have this to say: Such occurences are very common in the human family and, as I see it, is nothing to gamble on. Of one thing I can assure him. that he is not and never will know of twin births in the spirit family, as he would have us believe is the case when he presumes to say that he is a Christian and at the same time an old every-day sinner; for the two spirits will not reign together in the same heart; for we read in Matt., 6:24: No mancan serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon.”In 1 John, 3:3-8, we find the following language:I And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself. even as he is pure. Whatsoever eommittetn sin, trans-gresseth also the law; for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinn th not:whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. This I admit is true, and he might have said that a j large majarity; for in Matt., 7:113-14, we read:Enter ye into the straight gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leadeth to destruction; and many there be which go in thereat. Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that findNow, in conclusion, I want to present to Mr. Beaufort a Savior, not a priest, that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteous-gess. 1 John, 1:9.J.
