The young folks then had their inning until 2 o'clock in the morning, the hall being cleared in short order and Renno's Orchestra installed for business. It was an enjoyable party, and gave excellent satisfaction to all who participated. It is the custom in mining camps to wind up everything with a dance, except prayer meeting, and there have been well authenticated instances where the prayer meeting only escaped the dance by a mere scratch. Thus ended one of the best political demonstrations ever held in Amador county. Now let us vote the straight Republican ticket and put a clincher on our work.Fell 1600 Feet.Another tragedy occurred here about 6 o'clock Thursday evening, which casts a pall of gloom over the community. John Guerra, a young man about 22 or 23 years of ago, a favorite among his many associates, plunged headlong down the shaft of the Kennedy mine from the 800 level to the 2400 level—a distance of 1600 feet. His body, terribly mangled, was recovered about 9 j o’clock last night. The circumstances of the dreadful accident, are as follow’s: Young Guerra and several other miners were coming off shift, their day’s work being finished, some were in..the skip and others “riding the bail, ” Guerra was among the latter. The skip had reached the 800 level when Guerra fell off. It is believed by his fellow workmen that he either fainted or wont to sleep and relaxed his grasp of the cable. It appears that Guerra took part in the parade the night before and- attended the dance, remaining up nearly, if not quite, all night. A hard day's work following may have exhausted him so , much that ho actually fell into a slight { doze or possibly may have fainted on the way up. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. ( The funeral will be held to-morrow.IN MEMORIAM
