Rio Gtande Valley Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association through the 1995 'Till s the Boot* campaign.A grand total of $538,254 was raised to help the Valley Chapter ofMDA fund its patient «er-vice program, ineluding the Volley MBA Clinic at Valley Baptist Medical Center and MDA Summer Camp for Valley patients ages' S through 21,The Valley Chapter provides services to patients with any one of 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA in Cameron,• Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy and Brooks counties.The awards presentation took place at the district mooting of the Rio Grande Valley Fire Fighters and Fire Marshall's Association held at the Roma Veterans of Foreign Ware and hosted by the Rim a Volunteer F.re Department Oct. fl.Special ,lStar1’ awards based-'On city ■size and amount of dit, laru .raised .wont to La Joya ’ VFD, -Raymondville VFD, Mercedes VPD, Edinburg VFD, anding to Mendoza.The center is funded by Jbtf. United Way, private and publicFirefightere Association.The '‘Hometown Favorite Award foi the highest per capita collections in the Fill the Boot, campaign went to the La Joya Volunteer Fire Department which raised $1.20 per capita.The Weslaco Ffre Department received the “Golden Ladder Award for the largest irtcrease over 1994, with a 77 perreat increase inlands raised for MDA.The “Golden Heart Award went to the Brownsville Firefighters’ Association. This Jb awarded each year to the department that not only raises money to bolp MDA but aim shows an interest in MDA patients in their'community.The “Gulden Bout. .Award” went to the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department For raising $7,459.Kunnerup was the McAl.en Fire Department and Firefighters’ Association which raised $6,772 for MDA.“Golden Star Awards’’ were awarded to departments that raised more than $5,000. Two.departments received a Gclden :Star award,'which were the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department witli/$7,456 and McAllen Fire Department and Firefighters' Association with $6,772.The five Gold award winners, raising-more than $2,009 each, weva-ths Alton Volunteer FireDepartment, Brownsville Firefighters Association, La Joya Volunteer Fire Department, Mission Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary and the Raymonds1! ile Volunteer Fire Department,Blue awards were given to four departments that raised more than $1,000 each, for a combined total of $5,152, including Alamo Volunteer Firs Department, Elsa Volunteer Firo Department, Mercedes Volunteer Fire Department and the Weslacu Fire Department.Red awards woro given to four department} that raised mors than $509 on ch. including the Donna Volunteer Firo Department, Hidalgo Volunteer Firo Department, Lyford Volunteer Fire Department and the Palm-view Volunteer Fire Department.White awards went to the Ed-couth Volunteer Fire Department, La Feria Volunteer Fire Department, Los PruBnos; Volunteer Firo Dept., Pharr Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Dapur-ttnanl, Sfou Uvnito Volunteer Fir* Department, San Juan Voluntcor Fire Department and South Padre Island Fire Department.If any organization is interested in sponsoring an event to benefit MDA or for more information on patient services, contact MDA at 222 E.
