Dr. Richard $. Wilbur, a promi nent member of an illustrious Cali fornia family, will head the Northern California Committee of Physicians for the reelection of U.S. Senator Thomas H Kuchel. Announcement of Dr. Wilbur's acceptance of the Kuchel commit tee chairmanship was made by Thomas J. Mellon, the Senator's Northern California campaign chairman The appointment is even more significant in that Dr Wilbur op posed the hospital care plan for the aged under Social Security which Senator Ruchel helped to write and voted for in the Senate this year, Mellon said. Dr. Wilbur, vice chief of staff of Palo Alto Hospital, explained his acceptance, saying: “Senator Ruchel is a strong, in dependent and honest voice for California and all of the people in the United States Senate. ‘As one of the Senate's four top elected leaders - - not just another one of 100 Senators - - he gets things done for California and for America. “Our state simply can not afford to lose such an able, courageous and effective spokesman. “He is not only assistant leader of his party, but an important voice on the powerful Appropria tions Committee and the ranking minority member of the important Interior and Insular Affairs Com mittee, which handles water and our natural resources. “What is more, he is not a rub ber stamp Senator, but calls them as he sees them - - and that is what the people of California need most in Washington.” Dr. Wilbur's grandfather, Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, was president of Stanford University and his uncle, Dr. Dwight L. Wilbur of San Francisco, is former president of the American College of Physi cians and Surgeons. Besides being vice chief of staff of Palo Alto Hospital, Dr. Wilbur is chairman of the legislative committee of the Santa Clara Medical Society.
