The doctors held a meeting last night with area news media.(Bradenton Call Photo)0Oral Polio Vaccine Campaign To OpenThe first organizational meeting of the polio campaign gets underway tonight with Dr. Angus Graham presiding, in an effort to organize Manatee County for aMan Loses To Trooper On ChaseA 15 to 20-minute high-speed chase through Samoset and a section of Bradenton Wednesday night ended with Chester Myers, 21, of 12th St. Court E., Samoset, being confined in Manatee County jail in lieu of $500 bond.Trooper Randy Ackett ofthe Florida Highway Patrol said he first noticed Myers speeding through Samoset at about 85 miles per hour at 10 p.m. Ackett sounded his siren and switched on his flashing red light but Myers did not stop.The chase ensued with the two cars going across the state highway in Samoset five times running cars into the ditch on the side of the road. At times Myers was driving without headlights Ackett said.Ackett called the chase the worst he has ever been involved in during his four years as a highway patrolman.He said Myers’ only explanation for his action was that he “just got scared.”Cpl. Ralph Hayes assisted Ackett in the arrest.December campaign to immunize each individual regardless of age, against polio. More than 100 civic leaders and responsible citizens are expected to attend this meeting in which the ABC’s of the campaign will be spelled out.The program is sponsored by the Manatee County Medical Society.A 20-minute film showing the method of organization and successes in other portions of the country will be shown by the Pfizer representative who will be the supplier of the vaccine. A small immunization station will be shown and several physicians and those other parties interested, will take the vaccine this evening.The meeting will be held at Ki-wanis Hall.The various committees working on the polio vaccine will also make short reports in an attempt to inform thrvie attending of precisely what the vaccine will mean and how the program will work.With the advent of the Salk vaccine which has been effective in reducing polio through out the country over the past few years, the number of cases of paralytic polio have been greatly decreased.The disease however has not yet been defeated and in 1961 more than 1,500 cases of paralytic polio were reported in this country.With the advent of Dr. Sabin’s vaccine which can be given orally and is a live virus vaccine, the people have been given a final tool to eradicate polio from this country. Not only does the vaccine I protect against immediate infection with the virus, but it also removes the carriers from the com-' munity.J The machinery has been set in (Continued on Page 3)1 I
