Widow of J. H. Morton j Dies at Spirit LakeMrs. Jennie Morton, widow of John H. Morton, died in her home at Spirit Lake on Wednesday, October 17. She had visited for six weeks in the home of her son Nelson at Smithland and returned home October 13. Four days later she was taken ill and passed away two hours afterwards.The Morton family lived on their farm in Moville township for about 25 years, and left here in 1916.Jennie B. Smith was bora in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, on February 6, 1852, and passed away! at her home in Spirit Lake, Iowa, October 17, 1934, aged 82 years, 7 months and 12 days.She was married to John H. Morton February 13, 1872. Mr. Morton preceded her in death nine years ago.Early in their married life they! came to Iowa and homesteaded near the present ^site of Primghar, Iowa where they resided eighteen years and then moved to a farm near Mo-' ville, Iowa. In 1916 they retired from the farm and went to Spirit Lake where they spent the remain-i der of their lives.Mrs. Morton was the mother of j six children; Nelson, of Smithland, Iowa; James, of Ree Heights, S. D.; Mrs. Bertha Williams, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Oscar, of Miller, S. D.; Mary, who paused away in 1916, and Clarence Morton, of Win-j dom, Minn. She also leaves eleven! grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren, and one brother, D. O. Smith of Conneautville, Pa.She was a lifelong member of! the Methodist church and was a faithful attendant as long as her health permitted.Mrs. Morton was the daughter of a pioneer in Pennsylvania, and she was a pioneer woman of Iowa— possessed of the true pioneer spirit, of wonderful courage, cheerful-' ness and sincerest faith, and was a! source of inspiration to her hus- j band, and children, and all who knew her.
