PROSPECTS AREBRIGHT FOR ANEW THEATERCommittee Finds M uch Sentiment in Favor of \ Plan. |The proposition of a new theater ! building for Monmouth, which is being sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, apparently is meeting with considerable favor and there seems to be a srlendid possibility of a dream of several years being realized. jThe committee appointed by theboard of directors of the Chamber ofCommerce to investigate the matterhas been quietly at work for morethan a week, and has interviewed a numbers of the city’s leading men and women, with the result that all seemed to think Monmouth must have a new theater if she wants to keep in the running with neighboring cities.While no definite set of blue prints have been drawn for the proposed building, a large and well known con* tracting firm in this part of the country is now at work on estimates for several sets of plans which might he adaptable for this city. These figures \4nl probably be ready for presentation to the Chamber board at its next meeting. p !One of the committeemen has re* ceived an offer from an architect to draw plans for a theater building and supervise its construction for less than ha!f usually charged for this work. The committee also has been quietly looking at proposed locations for the new theater, and has several ; places in view which would be suitable *r the building. All are for sale, it is understood.Belief has been expressed by those in a position to know, that a theater suitable for a city the size of Monmouth could be erected and furnished completely for $50,000 or $60,000, and if the interest in the proposition continues to increase as much in the next few weeks as it has done in the nast. two, there is a strong possibility that the deal will be consummatedbefore long.
