Casey, who was called to Winona by the illness and death of her husband, has returned to her home at Moscow. The families of J. A. Keller and F. A. Sprague have moved to Kooskia for the purpose of sdhool ing the children, Jamee Lambert has been visiting at the home of Joby McBoyle. ‘The boldest horse theft that has ever occured in Winona took place on last Sunday evening when two saddle horses belonging to Mr. J. Blackburn and Miss Fargo, and , which had been tied in front of the Farmers’ Store, were found to be missing. After a diligent search of several hours they were found tied in an unused barn about half suspected of the crime, one of them having confessed to complicity in the affair. March's fine farm adjoining town. Miss Arlene Picket, who is con ducting a very successful school in the Laub district, spent Sunday with Mrs. D. L. Rosengrants, KK, P. Maxwell is the successor of D. L. Rosengrant. In the butcher shop, C. $8, Hunt and family are pre paring to move to their farm north of Winona. People of Winona are anxiously waiting for the wedding bella, which are expected to ring soon for two of our popular young people. C. H. Mundt is building a large machine shed in which he will shed two threshing rigs. Herman Sage, Winona's barber, has returned after a summer's absence. The measle epidemic is nearly over. The directors of the Winona school have as yet been unable to secure a teacher, M. T., Hastings and McGuire re turned yesterday with their cattle which were on the summer range near Elk City, Cottonwood. Ideal weather continues. Riley Dixon returned Monday from the late seasion of the Grand Lodge L. O. O. F. held at Caldwell. Judge Wolbert’s office now shows a representation of grains, grasses, fruits and vegetables that are pro duced in this county, and the showing is a good one, . D. Debetre, a newcomer from California, has purchased the Bick nell ranch near Ferdinand. The sale was made through Vincent Lorang, the live real estate dealer of our city. The hardy building is rapidly nearing completion and will soon be ready for occupancy, 8. R. Lib bey will take one store room and Robinson, the Aruggist the other, H. W. Stevenson, who lives near “Sugar Loaf’ on the Joseph Plains was in the city on Tuesday. The depot grounds are now ready for the tracks and buildings and the Inter will, no doubt, soon be under way. ' The showing made by Tdlaho county at the Lewiston Inter-State fair was a plainer to the inhabit ants of the “Orange Belt,’’ as they fondly imagined that they had a mortal cinch on all grains and fruits, and to have our county go down there and take away 21 or 22 prizes on grain and nearly paralyz ing them on fruits, wan revelation that they were not in any way pre pared for, and this too, the first feeble effort on the part of Idaho county to appear in any contest for supremacy, or even recognition, W. L. Brown has moved into his new home on the north side, lately purchased from W. M. Schil ler. As the harvest is practically lower the farmers are more in evi dence on our streeta. Attorney Duffy made a business trip to Ferdinand Monday. The German State bank is now ready for the roof, and will soon be the flat completed brick business ; home in the city. The N. P. Ry. Co. will not allow any buildings or structures to be rerected on their right-of-way in this city. Significant, is it not? John Hoene, who went from here to the Twin Falls region some time ago, and invested there, has sold out his holdings and returned to the city and purchased two late on Main street and will soon erect a building for a hardware store and machine shop. Fouche made a business’ trip to Ferdinand on Monday, re turning the same evening. Sam Goldstone returned from Lewiston on Sunday evening ac companied by the Misses Anna and Minnie Binnard, who had been visiting friends and looking over the Interstate fair. 8. J. Peterson, Elleworth D. Lamb, Louis Asker and J. A. Reed have a fine showing of fruits that is mighty hard to beat. E. D. Lamb has on exibition, some whopping big potatoes of which he has 20 tons. Our schools are in a flourishing condition and all seem well pleased with the able management of Mr. Adkinson our principal, Andrew Jorgenson, one of our up-to-date farmers, living 5 miles south of the city, has left in the fruit and grain display window of Judge Wolbert a fine sample of the wheat grown on his farm, just as taken from the thresher. A. J. Payne, the genial landlord of the hotel Cottonwood says that the display of grains and fruits at Lewiston, from Idaho county, was I truly wonderful and was an eye opener to all who saw it. Mr. Haskell the engineer in charge of the N. P. work, here, and ©.T. Staal have gone for short outing trip, leaving Sunday morning. What has become of the ‘Blue Law’ we mean the Sunday Rest Up Law, that would force all of the people, except a select law, to be ‘good?’ It is rumored that two of the Supreme Judges are of the opinion that it is unconstitutional, and one for it.
