Navy Fireman Andrew Madison, son of James Madison of Steger, was awarded the Navy “E” Ribbon while serving aboard the ‘guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens, homeported in San Diego. The award, given for services with a unit which has won a battle efficien cy competition, was earned by Madison's ship for the fourth consecua tive time. ‘The 1996 graduate of Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights, joined the Navy in June 1996. The 1993 graduate of ‘Seton Academy in South Holland joined the Navy in August 1993 . Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Micah Pakowski, son of James and Patricia Pakowski of Calumet City, graduated from the Navy's Basic Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y. Pakowski studied basic mathemat ics and physics for three months and later received hands-on train ing. The 1993 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, joined the Navy in December 1995. Angel Giles of Chicago Heights enlisted in the United States ‘Navy for guaranteed training at the Navy's Yeoman School under the Delayed Entry Program. Andrew Cunningham arrived for duty at the U. Army adjutant for the Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion. He is the son of Linda Cunningham of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Glenn Cunningham of Olmsted Falls, Ohio. His wife, Beth, is the daughter of Russ DeBruin of Glenwood. The captain is a 1989 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, and a 1993 graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign. WArmy Pvt. Mark Riegel entered the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at Fort Monmouth, Red Bank, N.Y. The prepara tory training is designed to help candidates meet academic and physi cal requirements for 10 months to become eligible for appointment to the USS. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Riegel is the son of Susan and Orlin Riegel of Crete. Marine Pfc. David Canon, son of Charles and Rita Canon of Chicago Heights, completed the Marine Corps Field Wireman Sourse, taught at Marine Corps Communications Electronics School, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif .The 1995 graduate of Bloom Township High School joined the Marine Corps in January 1997. Army Reserve Spec. Dominique Smith graduated from basic training at Forest Leonard Wood, Wynesville, MO. Smith is the daughter of Lawrence Smith of Richton Park, and Brenda Smith of University Park. She graduated in 1987 from Bloom Township High School, Chicago Heights, and received an associate's degree in 1993 from Dawson Technical Institute, Chicago. Jackie Bradford joined the United States Army under the Played Entry Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, Chicago. Bradford a 1987 graduate of Bloom High Schoo, Chicago Heights, reported for basic training Sept. 3. He is the son of Char Bradford of Richton Park. Navy Seaman Melissa O'Connor, daughter of William Connor of Glenwood, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit s Training Command, Great Lakes, and received classroom and practi cal instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. She is a 1996 gradu ate of Lake Central High School of St. John, Ind. M Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Gregory Glaeser, son of Gerri Ziemski of Orland Park and son of David Glaeser of Park Forest, was meritoriously promoted while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, homeported in Bremerton, Wash. The 1994 gradu ate of Carl Sandburg High School of Orland Park joined the Navy in March 1995. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Vincent, son of James and Mary Vincent of Mokena, completed the Officer Indoctrination Course aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City, homeporte in Mayport, Fla. The 1979 graduate of Rich South High School, Richton Park, joined the Navy in October 1982. Delma Flagg completed training in fundamental military skills at the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Ky., a two-year program for college freshmen who have not taken ROTC courses. Flagg, a student at Ilinois State University, Normal, is the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle Flagg of Homewood. She is a 1994 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Flossmoor. Air Force Airman Douglas Wilkerson graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Patricia Wilkerson of Hazel Crest and Leland Wilkerson of Chicago. He is a 1993 graduate of Thornton Township High School, Harvey, Marine Pfe. Gabriel Herandez, son of Guillermo and Guadalupe Hernandez, completed recruit and combat training and is now stationed at 29 Palms, Calif., attending communication and elec tronics school. Formerly of Richton Park, he now resides in San Antonio, Texas. 1 ATea Stringfellow joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Chicago Heights. A 1997 graduate of Thornridge High School, Dalton, she reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. for basic train ing Sept. 11. She is the daughter of Phyllis May of Harvey, and Lawrence Stringfellow Jr. of Chicago Heights.
