Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sabathe of Minocqua celebrated their \0th wedding anniversary Oct. 17 with an open house given by their children in the afternoon and a dinner in the evening at the Tower’s Chippewa Room. Senator Clifford Krueger, nephew of the couple, pro posed the toast and acted as master of ceremonies. The couple was married Oct. 16, 192 at St. Stephan’s Church in Merrill by the Rev. M.M. Schmidt. Mr. Sabathe was born Jan. 31, 189 in the Town of Berlin in Marathon county. His wife, the former Elsie Krueger, was born Sept. 2, 18% in the town of Scott, Lincoln county. They lived in Merrill until 1938 where, from 1914, Mr. Sabatke was involved in the contract building business. They came to Minocqua and settled at Lake Shishebogama where they are living at pres ent. Sabatke continued his con tracting business here and re tired in 1960. His son, Lyle, took over the business. The Sabatkes are building a new home in Woodruff and ex pect to be moved in by Christ mas. Three of their four wedding attendants attended the cele bration: Mrs. Jul Krause, Merrill; Hilton Sabatke, Wausau, and Walter Krueger, Merrill. Mrs. Edwin Klein schmidt is deceased. Mrs. Sabatke wore a blue three-piece knit suit with gold accessories. Her corsage, given to her by her grandchildren, consisted of two orchids with gold trim. Her husband wore a gold boutonniere, also given by the grandchildren. The Sabatkes have four child ren, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Their child dren are Mrs. Francis (Elaine) Tower of Muskego, Lyle Sa batke of Lac du Flambeau, Mrs. Ronald (Fern) Frederick of Caledonia and Mrs. Gerald (Jane) Grundy Jr. of Minocqua. The Rev. C.G. Shhalkhauser offered a prayer before and af ter the dinner. The pastor is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where Mr. and Mrs. Sabatke are character members and were active in build ing the church. A floral centerpiece of mums and fall colors decor ated the table at the open house and the dinner. A four tier wedding cake with gold ornaments was served in the evening. Nine of their grand children came to the celebration. Frank Tower, Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Turner, Hartford, Conn., were unable to attend. Present were: Kim, Mark and Paul Frederick, Caledonia; James, Robin, Allen and Paul Labathe, Lac du Flambeau; Renee and Brian Grundy, Minocqua. The great-grandfild is Frank Paul Tower, Rochester, N.Y. Other guests came from Wood worth, Caledonia, Muskego, Wausau, Merrill, Tomahawk, Minocqua, Lac du Flambeau, Woodruff and Clyman.
