Twenty, four -portrait busts alodeled by Mrs. Audria Hayner Palmer will be ‘on “display at the First National Bank at its main offices for four weeks, be ginning Monday. The public is contiially invited to see the work of Lila talented local sculptress. Many of the people of Las Cru ces are familiar with the works of Mrs. Palmer. She has made portrait-buals of many promi nent citizens’ of the Southwest, which have been shown in the ‘Museum of New Mexico and the El Paso Museum, Ona Formula Her figures are made in terra cotta clay of a formula de veloped ‘by herself. ‘The clay is fired, then glazed or metalized giving the effect of having been worked in bronze. Those who have seen her Work are tremendously, im pressed with the integrity of her art. Says Mrs. Palmer, “You cannot portray that which is not true, and you won't take away something that is there. Thig hespeaks off her work and ex presses a deep humility and a sense of understanding. In creating her sculpture, Mrs. Pabner does not stop to analyze but records a series of expressions and molds them to gether in a mosaic. She stops and thinks about each of her subjects — what they are — what they are like. This, there is a deep sense of communica tion between the sculpteesa, and her subject. Native Crueen Mrs. Palmer was born and reared in “Las Cruces and ats ended schools here. Later, she went to Stephens College in Mis souri and the University of Ari zona, at which institution she studied philosophy and psychol ogy. She obtained her Masters Degree from Columbia Univer sity, and taught psychology at the Texas Women's University in Denton, Tex.
