,« Joliet Railroads.The Santa Pe expects to open its Chi-eago-St. Louis line on the 23Hh instant. Traffic agreements have been made with the Jacksonville Southern and the Toledo, St. Louis and Kansas City jwls. *From Texas comes the announcement that the Hock Island has begun the work of extending its line into that state. It is said that engineers are already making the hecessary surveys for line running sout^^JCrom Mingo, I. T. which is now the terminus of the Rock Island system in that direction.Thei?e heetn to be no longer any doubt about the Chicago Alton being anxious to buy the Kansas City and Southern road. Chief Engineer Sooth is now out in Missouri looking over the property and will report in a few days what he thinks of it. Should the Alton buy the Southern there would be a few cbimges to make, as the latter now uses the former’s tracks into Kansas City. The Southern, however, has switching facilities which could be used by the Alton, and these, It is 9aid, Mr. Hooth examined.
