Moore died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Ryon near Spencer and the body was brought back to Laurens to be laid beside the remains of his wife in the Laurens cemetery. While Mr. Moore lived but a few years in this community, he was one of the real pioneers of the state—A native born pioneer.Funeral services were held in the Laurens Methodist church Monday af-, ternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Chas. H. Seward. The following obit-! uary was read at the funeral:Stephen G. Moore was born in Poweshiek County, Iowa, December 4,1 1848 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Ryon of Spencer, Iowa, Saturday morning, October 15, 1932. Between these two dates a period of 83 years, 10 months and 10 days has been recorded—-The true story of a devoted son, husband and father. He led a very quiet and unassuming life, but he was so thoughtful of the needs of his family that he would deprive himself for them at any time—always thinking of others.He was married to Laura A. Knapp and to this union nine children were I born. Three having died in infancy,!1six children survive: Mrs. Gertie Ryon, Spencer; Mrs. Katie Ferguson of Laurens; Chas. S. Moore, Lake Preston, South Dakota; Mrs. Emma Tre-nary, Erwin, South Dakota; Mrs. Maude Reed, Kansas; and Henry Moore.Mr. Moore is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was the last of a large family of children and he will be9greatly missed, by his own children. He joined the Methodist church at Whitten, Iowa, in the spring of 1894.He .moved from a farm at Whitten49 9to a farm near Laurens and lived here seven years and then moved to Erwin, South Dakota where he lived unt about three years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Moore came back to Iowa and stayed with their daughters on account of Mrs. Moore’s failing health. She passed away, May 2, 1930.Father, thou hath left us,• lt;There will be one vacant chairIn the homes so sad and lonely Where you never will return a-gain.
