John M. Mikes passed away in the East Bernard Hospital, Tuesday, October 9, at 8:30 a.m. at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 26 days. Funeral services were held in the Wallis Catholic Church at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, with burial in the Shiner Cath olic Cemetery about 11:00 a.m. All local services were by Buf fington of Shiner. Rosary was recited in Wallis October 10. Mr. Mikes was born January 13, 1875, in Czechoslovakia. He came to America in July, 1888, and settled in Shiner where he followed farming. He was mar ried to Mary Havel September 24, 1889 in Moulton. Survivors include his wife, five daughters, three sons, 33 grandchildren, 8 great-grand children, four sisters, 2 broth ers. e children are Mrs. Ma ry Bartel, Shiner; Mrs. Rosie Svatek, Boling; Mrs. Anna Banham, Houston; Mrs. Lillie Janik, Freeport; Mrs. Ella Bo ransky, Houston; John Mikes Jr., Wallis; Jim Mikes, Free port; Sgt. Adolph Mikes, Ger many; four sisters, Mrs. Annie vik Tousek, Mrs. Agnes Werner, Mrs. Mary Vaclavik,Mrs. Katy, Walleck; two brothers, Henry Mikes and Martin Mikes, Gon zales. The Rev. Alois Klovelda of ficiated at the Wallis services. Pallbearers were Joe Ada mik, Derrel Yawn, Cpl. August Svatek, Pfc. Fred Filip, Au gust Janik Jr., Eugene Mikes. Mr. Mikes was a loyal mem ber of the Catholic Church, he also held membership in the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge. He had re sided in Shiner until about 26 years ago when he moved to Wallis. He underwent surgery about four weeks ago, but ral lied, and was sent home. Later complications arose that neces sitated his return to the hos pital. We extend sympathy to those bereaved over his pass ing.
