HEADQUARTERS ALASKA DEFENSE COMMAND, Oct. 18. —(AP)—Major General Eugene Landrum, commanding general in Re capture of Attu and the cars, her occupation of Adak, was given a new command in the States. The Alaska Defence Command announced that Brig Gen. Harry Thompson, veteran infantry offi cer, was succeeding Landrum as commander of the Adak post. As leader of the Attu and Adak operations General Landrum commanded the two most diffi cult and important of Aleutian actions.
