Impose* Double Pine on Saloonkeeper for Appearing in Court Drunk.NEMANICH HAS AN EXPERIENCEMany Drain Shop Proprietors Plead Guilty and Fined—Cases Against Ohs#. Zlpf and the Late McGrath Dismissed—Amount Each Paid.Thirty saloonkeepers were ordered to appeal- beforeJudge Hilscher Friday and take what was coming to them for violating the liquor laws ofthe city.Sometimes it happens that 'the defendants do not fully appreciate the extent of their violations and look upon the affair as a joke. Yesterday (lust. A. Peterson, 1301 Jackson street, went into court in an intoxicated condition. When his case was called, the judge saw the trouble and began at once to give the man a severe lecture. After he was through talking to him he fined the man $40 on each of the three accounts, making the amount just double that given to the other men.Ex-Alderman Nemanich also had an experience. He went before the judgo with a broad smile and careless manner. Every action showed he thought it was extremely funny. A few words from the court had the effect of ironing out the saloonkeeper’s face and the apology which followed saved him from the double fine.Of the thirty men brought into court twenty-nine paid the fines. The caser against Charles A. Zipf were dismissed. The cases against the late M. C. McGrath were also nolle prossed.gome of the men were fined on two accounts and others on three. Except in the case mentioned the fine is $20 on each beside the costs. The latter are $5 on each account, $6 court costs, $1.60 sheriff’s fees when tmore than one man operates a saloon, and 85 cents when one man ow-ns It.
