We may be pardoned if we speak of the congratulations extended us by this friend upon our success in the battle with the Liquor League. I never forgot yez, and I prayed to the Virgin Mary, at me layin’ down and me risin’ up, fur ye.”Among the thousands of prayers offered up for us during those davs of torture, not one touched us more deeply than did this assurance from this dear old Irish heart.The lovely Christian charity and watchfulness of the good people of Colfax has been thrown around Mr. Bailey, and has done much to help him on to victory. Who can read of this man’s life and death, and have aught but commendation for the “little acts of kindness,” — it may be but a word fitly spoken, it may be but a cup of cold water, that leadeth a man upward and onward.If, as the Good Word says, a drunkard cannot inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, surely the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union of this district has to the credit of its labors one soul redeemed.May this life, this death, lead Others to choose the better part, and pray the good Lord: “Lead us not into temptation, butdeliver us from evil.” May idle hands learn, from this, that the harvest calls and the laborers too few.
