Head Quarters, 1st. Reg.Wis. Cavalry at Hipon, Oct. 1 G, ’61.Mr. II. B. Phelps, Esq., Beaver Dam— Permit me through the columns of the Argus to return you the kindest thanks in behalf of my Company and on my own part for the reception of a splendid' flag presented to me and my company by yourself.If you had been where you could have hoard the deafening cheers which aro-.e from one hundred as patriotic hearts as ever \ eat for liberty in the State of Wis-consin, for the donor of the emblem of liberty and the flag of the free, you would have felt proud that the flag of our country had fell in such good hands, where it' would be protected with their lives, if ne-t e:essary. Three cheers were given for the benevolent donor of the flag ; three cheers for the flag, and three times three for old Dodge county, of whom they have t!io honor to represent. A kind invitation was then, by motion, extended toll, fk Phelps Esq., to make the Dodge County Fremont Guard a visit before they arecalled from the State, in defense of their country. On my own part I feel very; proud that I have the honor to command such a noble set of men; and I feel assured if they are ever brought into active service they will make their mark visible on the rebel legions of the South, so much so that old Dodge county will feel proud to own them as their sons of freedom.— Last evening my company raadc me a splendid present of a large Register about four feet square, hung in a heavy frame, and executed by Profescor S. W. Martin of Beaver Dam, with each member of mycompany inserted, which cost 840. I shall leave the Register in Beaver Dam untilmy return from the war.
