Pleasant Surprise Held For Samuel Murray At Smithsburg. A surprise party was given in the social hall of the M. E. Church at Smithsburg Monday night, in honor of Samuel Murray, for five years superintendent of the M. E. Church school. A short program was rendered consisting of string music by Mr. George Kindle and Uncle David Kindle, songs, readings and talks. The following members of the church school and friends were present: Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Murray, Mrs. Mary Whitmer, Jane t Whitmer, Mr. Simon Clopper, Rev. and Mrs. F. H. Love, Miss Carrie M, Brown, Mr. and Mrs. George Mann, Marian, Mack and Car! Mann, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cunning ham and children, Dorothy and Ho ward, Mr. and Mrs. Elliie Brown and children, Owen, Harry, Blanche and Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Frisky Kindle and daughter, Edna, Daniel and Sarah Forrest, June Barrow, Barbara, Virginia and Robert, Lumm, Mary Jane Bubrman, Mar garet and Florence Tracy, Goldie and Luctin Smith, Mrs. Idona Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Prior and son, Carrol, Sadie Hershber ger, Edwin Kelbaugh, Mrs. Russel Miter, Elizabeth Frye, Charles Flair, Johnnie Keplinger, William and Catherine South, Loraine and Genevieve Glenn, Charlotte Miller, Miss Charlotte Forrest, Mr. and Mrs. George Kindle and Son, Jason, and Uncle David Kindle. Mr. Murray declined the office of superintendent at the election this month, feeling that he was unable longer to carry on the work. He still serves as first assistant super intendent. A red letter edition of the New Testament was presented to him. :2t the party in appreciation of his faithful ,and devoted services to his church and school. ‘Refreshments consisting of ice cream, cake and coffas were served by the ladies of the church.
