The winning streak of the North Canton Miller Cleaners was stopped at five games at North Canton Sun day when they were defeated by the Rogers Jewelers football team, 8-0, after a valiant battle. The first half was a drab affair, resolving itself largely into a punt ing duel and without much to talk about excepting a 30-yard dash by Paul Calabria, flashy Rogers half, after he had intercepted a North Canton pass. The Cleaners made one first down in this half and held the Rogers without any, but in the second half the Rogers underwent some kind of a transfor mation, especially on the offensive, with Coach “Dinty] Hogan insert ing himself at quarter and driving the boys hard. Two Rogers’ drives were stopped deep in North Canton territory It was an effort to punt out of danger after one of these drives which resulted in the only touch down of the game. This was in the third period, with Bo Warstler back to kick, Tom Foley, Rogers’ center, knifed through the line and made a beautiful block of the punt, the ball rolling back 10 yards over the North Canton goal where he covered it. Early in the fourth period the Rogers worked the ball to the North Canton 15 mark only to lose it on downs by a haigt yard. Two tad passes from Schaeffer, North Canton center, to Warstler resulted in a safety for the Rogers and two more points. Calabria, a product of Alliance high, stood out heads and shoulders above the field on the individual ‘tar. Time after time he sent his 145 pounds hurtling through the North Canton line in the second half for substantial gains. He made one neat 3%yard run through the line, only to slip and fall on the stubbly field with only one man left to pass. His defensive work equalled his offensive efforts. “Heinie Wiethmeyer's presence also was felt, with Calabria finding many wide holes at his tackle po sition through which to tear. Tom Foley and “Ike” Plottner also played nice games. “Dinty” Hogan, after going down for the count when he took one on the wind ap paratus the first play he was in, came back and led the team nicely, proving to be the power the leg ere offense has lacked all season.
