Covington county was created I in 1819 by the legislature, and the county seat located at Williamsburg, when the board of supervisors began the erection of the first court house In 1822, court being held In a small log house during the erection. This building served the county for many years, when In the 50’s It was consumed by fire. The next building was erected by Uncle Neil Mathiaon, on the spot that is now Wing advertised for sale, who lived to see the old building totter to Its fall from age.
