Last night at 12 o’clock fire was discovered in the basement of the Oconee Inn at Soneca, and within two hours the Oconee Inn, the Palmetto House, Hunt Harper's Store, Seneca Pharmacy, L. 4. Moore's store, Mrs. Anderson's Boarding house (Mrs. L. M. Coleman's property) were reduced to gaping walls and a heap of aakes. At the time of the discovery of the fire it had gained such headway in to preclude the possibility of saving the Oconee Tan, in the basement of which the fire originated. It was already a roaring blaze and had gone so far as to burn a large hole through the floor of the kitchen, ‘The basement contained a large supply of wood and coal, ‘The point at which the fire broke out is some thirty feet away from that part of the kitchen where the large range is located, and for that reason It is not thought possible that the fire could have had its origin from the stove.
