Saturday MorningShooting Case.—An unforiunute and fatal shooting affray took place oil the summit of the Blue mountains, on the road to Grand Gronde Valley, on last Saturday, 10th inst., in which Mr. Andrew Morgan, who reached this valley some five weeks since, from Davis county, Iowa, was mortally wounded; he survived till Monday, when he breathed his last. The remains were conveyed to ihe farm house of Mr. A. Davidson, near Walla Walla, whither Justice E. L. Massey (as acting-Coroner,) proceeded on Tuesday evening last and summoned a Jury of Inquest over the same. The character of the testimony el cited was substantially as follows : Morgan, on passing through Grand Bonde, on his way to this valley, left in the valley an American mare, which was unahle to travel farther, to be cared for by Certain parlies; not long since he received word frcm them that a Mr. Van Lurvin had come and taken off the animal, saying that it belonged to him, having purchased it from other hands; Morgan immediately repaired to Van Lun in’s, and without notifying him recaptured the mare, and, in company with o ther persons, was returning to this valley, v\ hen. on the summit of the mountain, Van Lurvin overtook them. Going up to Morgan, (who was in advance, l. ading the animal by a halter) he exclaimed: “That mare is mine, and 1 intend tohave hi-r;*’ suiting the action to the word, Vjjn L. dismounted and seized the halter,thereupon a scuffle ensued, in which Van L. was worsted ; he, however, got off anddirec ted his p stol toward Morgan, the cap only exploding. .This lead io a more violent engagement of ihe comba'ants. When the spectators approached, they found Morgan down and his antagonist beating him ov r the head with the breech of hi-* p s-tol ; Jhe report of three or four shots was also heard. The ball entered behind the left shouldei, coursing down* ards, iujur’ng the lungs, lodged in the spine—producing paralysis.?*** 1 - * ' r .»• _The Jury, after a careful hearing of all the evidence in the case, rendered a verdict that the dccia-cd “came to h:s death in conseqdence of said wound or pistol shot in the hand* of some person whose name is’not positively known to this Jury.’’A post mortem examination of the body was made by IJrs. A. J. Tfoibodo andSheil. ^fUp to the hour of going to press no arrest has been made. -Ydli Lurvin is still at large. It is stated that after shooting Morgan, he took his (M’s) pistol, mounted his horse and escaped.
