A patrolman from the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department arrest ed the 53-year-old Sweeny woman at her home Thursday, reports show. Her boyfriend, a 50-year-old Sweeny man, also was arrested Thursday, sheriff's investigator Buck Henson said. The runaway, a 14-year-old girl, told sheriff's investigators the boyfriend had threatened in March to slit her throat, Henson said. She ran away from her grandmother's house July 26, and Wayne County, N.Y., sheriff’s deputies found her with her stepfather at his home near Savannah, N.Y., last week, reports indicate. “When we have runaways go this far and this long, there’s obviously an underlying reason why she wanted to get this far away,” Henson said. “She told us about the ongoing problems in the house.” The boyfriend was not living with the grandmother when they were arrested, but he had been staying with her off and on in the past, Henson said. The grandmother was charged with failure to report child abuse, and the boyfriend was charged with making terroristic threats, both Class B misdemeanors punishable by up to six months in jail. They each have been released on $5,000 bond. “When we have runaways go this far and this long, there’s obviously an underlying reason why she wanted to get this far away.” Buck Henson, Brazoria County Sheriff's Department investigator Two other children in the grand mother’s custody — her 9-year-old niece and 6-year-old nephew have been turned over to relatives, Children’s Protective Services spokeswoman Estella Olguin said. The runaway remained in CPS cus tody Friday, she said. The grandmother and her boyfriend are not the only adults to be charged in connection with the runaway’s flight. The stepfather, 29- year-old Theodore Moody; her mother, Tsianina Moody, 29; and her uncle, 25-year-old Jeremiah Moody also have had numerous charges filed on them in relation to a plot to relocate the girl and her siblings out of state against court orders, reports show. It’s the latest chapter in a string of legal troubles for the family. Theodore Moody was convicted in March 2003 on two counts of injury to a child, a third-degree felony, after using a stun gun on his stepson, then 8, and another step daughter, then 11, reports show. He was prohibited from seeing the chil dren as part of the terms of his sub sequent jail sentence and probation, which prosecutors are now trying to revoke. He is undergoing extradi tion from Wayne County, where he faces charges of criminal gun pos session, obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child. He also has been charged with harboring a runaway and interfering with child custody, reports show. Tsianina Moody is in the Brazoria County Detention Center on charges of harboring a runaway, interfering with child custody, vio lating a protective order and three charges of filing a false report to a peace officer. County prosecutors also have filed a motion to revoke her probation, reports show. Jeremiah Moody was arrested in Wayne County on Thursday night, Henson said. Like the others, he has been charged with harboring a run away and interfering with child cus tody, reports show. Michael Baker is a reporter for The Facts. Contact him at (979) 237-0150.
