JASPER B. KEENE Jasper B. ‘‘Jack’’ Keene, 62, of Route 1, died Oct. 15 at Jones Coun ty Community Hospital. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Memory Chapel, with full military services at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Hood will officiate. He was a retired sergeant major in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Myrick Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Mason's Carmiceal Lodge in Enterprise, Ala. He was a Shriner, a member of Hamasa Temple in Meridian and a member of Dothan York Rites in Dothan, Ala. He is survived by his widow, Margaret Boyles Keene of Laurel; a son, Jack Blaine Keene of Laurel; a brother, Thomas Keene of Laurel; a sister, Bettie Ann Townsend of Laurel; and two grandchildren. Military personnel will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements. LUCY H. WILLIS Lucy H. Willis, 93, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Laurel, died Oct. 15 in Gainesville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tucker’s Crossing Baptist Church, with burial in Pop lar Springs Baptist Church Ceme tery. The Rev. Eddie Bryant will officiate. She was a homemaker and a member of Tucker’s Crossing Bap tist Church. She is survived by sons, William C. Willis of Gainesville, Fla., and Robert G. Willis of Newton; brothers, Joe George Harris of Newton and Harvey Harris of Col umbus, Ga.; and four grandchil dren Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PAUL ZAPALAC Paul Zapalac, 66, of Trinity, Texas, formerly of Laurel, died Oct. 14. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Funeral Home, with burial in Trinity, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and retired from Halliburton Service Co. after 35 years. He worked in the Laurel area for 17 years and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his widow, Ber tha Zapalac of Trinity, Texas, and other relatives. Trinity Funeral Home in Trinity, Texas, is in charge of arrange ments. ONNIE MOFFETT Onnie Moffett of Route 12 died Oct. 13 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Bap tist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He was preceded in death by sons, the Rev. M.J. Moffett and Elijah Moffett, and a daughter, Lessie Moffett. He is survived by his widow, Henrietta Moffett of Laurel; sons, Hildra Moffett, Annie Ray Moffett and Mack Moffett, all of Laurel; daughters, Leveroy Jones, Mildred McCann and Annie Kate McSwain, all of Laurel, 31 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. to day at Brown Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements. LESLIE WELLS Lessie Wells of Laurel died Oct. 13, at Jones County Community Hospital. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Heidelberg, with burial in the church .t She is survived by sons, Amos Nixon of Heidelberg and James Brown of Laurel; a sister, Hattie Marino of Heidelberg; 13 grand children, 13 great-grandchildren and other relatives. Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. to night at Brown Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements. LARRY JENE CULPEPPER Larry Jene Culpepper, 27, of Laurel, died Oct. 8. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Baptist Church, with burial in Oak Hill No. Two Cemetery. The Rev Wilson Rice Sr. will officiate. He is survived by his parents, Leroy and Nell McNeil Culpepper of Laurel; brothers, Robert Earl Culpepper of Detroit, Mich., and James ‘‘Chico’ Culpepper of Laurel; sisters, Betty Culpepper of Bay Shore, N.Y., and Cassandra Bolton of Laurel; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory McNeil and Mrs. Melinda Harris, all of Cuba, Ala., and Tom Culpepper of York, Ala.; and other relatives. Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. to day at Malone Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
