Lower Southampton officials fled sast Friday asking a Bucks ‘Court judge to permanent close the controversial Venera ble Anna Catherina Emmerick Bhrine and Academy because it is a public nuisance. ent closing of the “danger of death or serious bodily injury” caused by the Se pond boxes of dynamatie and ‘50-pound carton of pipebombs. ‘Those explosives were ‘cut by local and federal law enforcement officials in a tense 24-hour drama in early June involving the evacuation of 250 Lower and Upper Southampton families. ‘The suit, which township offi cials had been promising to file since the discovery of the explosives, was greeted derisively by Daniel Heffernan, eldest son of academy and founder Edward F. Heffernan. “absolute nonsense,” the young er Heffernan said in a telephone view. “We're being harassed to death right down to the end.” The suit also seeks the cloaing because more than 25 building and fire code violations were found in inspections of the school facility ordered by township officials after the removal of the dynamite. These violations vies such things as faulty electtiring, improper fire extinguishers, im proper storage of combustible Materials, storage of junk cars, inadequate restroom and drinking facilities and well pit located too close to a sanitary sewer line. The suit also seeks monetary damages and roughly $40,000 to cover expenses incurred by the ip in the dynamite disposal operation.
