Gardner got back on the winning track last night in a big way as they took advantage of every Lansing mistake in clobbering them, 50-14. Gardner used a punishing ground game to rack up 217 yards of total offense. They had to fight a come from behind game, however, in the early going as the Lions had jumped off to a 8-0 lead with 8-28 to go in the first.The TD came as Jeff Focht went 82 yards into pay dirt. The point after was good on a run by Stan Rollett. With 3:08 remaining in the first quarter the Trailblazers got their offense in gear and scored, knotting the mark at eight-all. The score was set up by a Paul Grahovac punt block and allowed Jim Hurman to take the ball in from the six. The point was also added by Hurman. Gardner took the lead for good in the second quarter as they scored 23 points. The first TD came with 11:27 remaining in the half and saw Grahovac go over from the two. This score was set up by a 61 yard punt return by John Stephens. The point after was good by Luther Watson. Again with 9:17 remaining in the half, Jim Hurman went over from the five with the PAT being added by Marvin Watson. Hurman also scored with 33 seconds remaining in the quarter; this time it was from seven yards out. The PAT was kicked by Rob Page. The TD was set up by a 48-yard screen pass from Hurman to Watson. In the third quarter Lansing’s Jeff Fecht took a pass for 59 yards and a score. Bob Peacock countered the score, however, as he went over from the 13 for Gardner. The PAT failed. With 38 seconds in the third quarter Marvin Watson took it over from the five with the PAT being added by Page on a kick. In the fourth quarter Gardner finished things up with a six pointer by Steve Cordell. He put the ball over from the four. The PAT kicked. Gardner is paired with Paola next week.
