PATERSON, NJ. (AP) — Rubin (Hurricane) Carter, mid- Noweight boxer who has spent one-third of his 29 ° years in re -armatories and prisons, was arrested Saturday and charged with committing a triple mur der in a focal tavern four months ago. Carter, a precious looking f ighter with shaved head and drooping moustache, lost a championship bid against then middleweight titleholder Joey Giardello in December, 1964. During the past year he sltned from its usual ranked position in the middleweight division. In his last fight Aug. $ he was outpostled by Rock Rivero in Rosario City, Argenti na. Carter, a Paterson native, was picked up by detectives, who also arrested John Artis, 21, of Paterson. Both men were arraigned on three counts of murder for the crime at the Lafayette Grill last June 17 which Mayor Frank X. Graves called “one of the most deliyous in the city's history,” Palice said the slayings ap peared to be an effort to elimi nate any witnesses of an appar ent holdup. An undisclosed am ount of money was taken by two gunmen who opened fire with a shotgun and pistol.
