Pleads Not Guilty To Kirk land Slaying While his wife and young baby looked on. Otto George, 20, brand ed by Solicitor Bart B. Chamber lain as one of Mobile’s “public enemies,” entered a plea of not guilty in circuit court today to a charge of first degree murder. He was in a party of many prisoners arraigned before Presid ing Judge Claude A. Grayson after , indictment by the last grand jury. George was indicted for the ambush, slaying of Herman Kirk land in the Toulminville . Drug Attorney Named The court appointed Attorney John C. Gray to defend George, who recently attempted to com mit suicide in his county jail cell by slashing his throat with a razor. Trial was set for Nov. 5. Lafayette Bush, Jr., also indict ed in the Kirkland murder, plead ed not guilty and Nov. 13 was fixed as the trial date. Gray also was appointed as his attorney. Bush pleaded guilty to two cases of robbery. Harvey George, no relation to Otto George, also was indicted in the Kirkland murder. He is in the penitentiary at present. ‘Kermit Bullock, indicted in seven robbery cases, pleaded not guilty and Nov. 16 was fixed for the hearing. Attorney Gray was named to defend him. John D. Morgan, on two rob bery charges, pleaded not a Attorney Ben McMillan named as his counsel and Nov. 23 fixed for the trial. W. H. McKay's trial on a rob bery charge was set for Dec. 5 and T. A. Hamilton named as his counsel when he pleaded not guilty, Ellis Odom, indicted in connec tion with a recent holdup of a game at the Gulf Fishing and Hunting club, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and Attor ney W. V. McDermott named to represent him. Edwin Corry, accused with Odom, was arraigned and his at torney, R. M. Smith, said he will file demurrers questioning the legality of the grand jury indict ment, Nov. 17 was fixed for the hearing on the demurrers. Van Matthews, well known Mo bilian, also was indicted in the stickup. He will returned here from Milwaukee, where he was arrested Saturday. Louis Bodden, on a robbery charge, pleaded not guilty. Mrs. Doris Van Ailer was named to de fend him on Nov. 7. Cecil Brooks, indicted in the holdup of Greer’s store at Old Shell rd. and Hallett Jr., also pleaded not guilty. His trial was set for Nov. 8 and Attorneys Dan McCall and Curtis Moody named to represent him. “Tootsie”. Brannan, ex-boxer, on four robbery charges, pleaded not guilty.
