DEVELOPMENTAnaheim Hills Festival to open in grand styleBy Vesta RiggsNorth County NewsThe long awaited Anaheim Hills Festival shopping center opens this weekend with special events and entertainment.The $100 million open-air center rose from the ground up in about a year and created more than 1,000 jobs. The Taubman Co. project houses about 60 stores including Target, Mervyn’s, Vons Pavilions, T.J. Maxx, Three D Bed Bath, Marshalls and Edward’s Theatres.Most of the businesses will open be revealed to the public this weekend but a few of the major tenants opened their doors Oct. 11. Others, such as the Edward’s Theatres’ eight-screen complex and Discovery Zone, are expected to begin operating by December.Special events will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Festival at Santa Ana Canyon and Roosevelt roads. Recognizing that consumer spending is at an all-time low, architects redesigned the Festival to appeal to bargain shoppers of the 1990s, officials said.Brad Geier, development director, said the Festival will provide shopping and dining to area residents who currently are underserved.
