Working diligently frdm about the middle of the forenoon until about two o’clock In the afternoon he was able to free himself of the rocks, timber and earth, which encased him In what appeared a living grave, he was able to reach the top of the sliaft and breath pure air again.¥he nearest house was about two miles distant, and as he was alone and unable to walk on account of hi* leg having been broken In two places, he was confronted by a condition little better than In the shaft, ne rolled and dragged himself by m£ana of one leg and his left arm to Noble Riley’s cabin and there found shelter, while a physician was hastily summoned from Nemo. Examination of bis condition disclosed bis right leg broken In two places, right arm broken, soveral bruises and lacerations with all Indications of serious internal Injury, lie Is a married n man with a wife and family at Pac- d tola.
