Bart Miller was seriously Injured In ,b eave-ln of the George Hughes mine at Silver City on Monday. He had . bean repairing the shaft In the mine w^ien the slide occurred, just after a ■Xqw old timbers had been removed to c be replaoed by new ones. He was almost entirely burled In the dirt and debris, and so tightly was he fastened that for a time he was unable to move and pains In his lltnbe Indicated one of his legs were broken by the heavy crush of earth upon him. Burled to his neck and alone he was able to work his arms free and though injured dug himself free In a few hours.As soon as freed he endeavored to dag himself from the shaft, but when about half way out another cavein occurred, again burying the unfortuate. man * to his shoulders. This time his right arm was broken, yet even In this condition he made a heroic effort for freedom. lie worked wlfch his left hand to dig his body from Its position. The great pain and stress of mind caused him to faint several times. The palm of his left hand was worn to the flesh and c badly lacerated In his efforts to liberate himself. Working diligently frdm about the middle of the forenoon until about two o’clock In the afternoon he was able to free himself of the rocks, timber and earth, which encased him In what appeared a living grave, he was able to reach the top of the sliaft and breath pure air again.¥he nearest house was about two miles distant, and as he was alone and unable to walk on account of hi* leg having been broken In two places, he was confronted by a condition little better than In the shaft, ne rolled and dragged himself by m£ana of one leg and his left arm to Noble Riley’s cabin and there found shelter, while a physician was hastily summoned from Nemo. Examination of bis condition disclosed bis right leg broken In two places, right arm broken, soveral bruises and lacerations with all Indications of serious internal Injury, lie Is a married n man with a wife and family at Pac- d tola.
