“KHAKI KIDS” WINTwo Pedestrians Make Trip From Philadelphia to Seattle in 131 days.Walter Chaffee anil Charles Kahn, young men who will In* remembered as having passed through Harlow ton during the summer on their way from Philadelphia to Seattle, having arrived safely at their destination, according to the Post-Intelligencer and have pulled down the wager of Sl.ooo eacii which was made in Quakeriown that they could walk the distance between t he t wo places bet ween the I8of May to Oct. I. The wager allowed tliein 1HT days to make the trip and they made it in 131Kahn wore out three pair of shoes. Chaffee two. A pair of half soles with hob nails lasted them about 111 days. Of tne entire 131 days 1 rained 3D days making the walking at those times practically impossible.The best walking the two young men did was in Iowa, where they sa one day they made 80 miles. From Harlow ton to Butte they made 4o J miles a day. They averaged 27 miles j a day on the entire trip.
