Letter from the Far North, Port Simpson, BoC. Sept. 28, 1008, Dear Prod. The time has come for me to drop you a note, Well I have been all over this countess and sized it up well and think it is the best harbor on the coast. I spent two days with aboat looking around the harbor and there is no better place on earth for a harbor one side three miles lone, strait. With water from 50 to 109 feet deep close to shore and a nice place for a town all along the shore. And the harbor is so sheltered that the waiter hardly has a ripple on it on days when it is windy outside. [1 is sheltered by islands and reefs, and has three splendid entrances The harbor has about four or five square miles of good anchor uge, 1 consider this the best harbor that I have seen on the Pacific coast, and T have seen them all from San Francisco to Skagway. The clim ate is fairly wood. Snow will not stay on the ground longer than a day and the water never gets to freezing point in the hi there is no fog, but it rains quite a lot, wheat like it does in Vancouver Kish is very plentiful, and the hills are full of deer. The population consists of about SOO or Swi) Indians, 20) preachers and school teachers and about 50) respectable whites, ‘There is one hotel and the Hudson Bay store and a few Idina stores. Steamers comes every week but will only come once in two weeks soon. ‘There is one Grand Trank man here sounding the harbor and looking at thing but he will not speak on the sub ject at all. Chances will be good when business opens to make money quickly. There will be no fall in real estate for some years and may he never. The Buckly val ley is a fine country. The land is beautiful and alot of it for the country, and some of the finest col in the world. The coal is 60 miles from Port Simpson, if any of the boys want to know anything about this place, tell them to write me and I will tell them all about it if we had Kootenay climate and soil it would be a world beater.
