Ills death was caused by heart disease.Dr. A S. llotladav was born at Car* lisle, Kentucky, Sept. 18th, UkJ7. Ms gi situated from the medical department or the St, Louis university in February, 1851. November 2nd, ih5, he settled In Hrownvllle. He was the IIi»t regular physician in Nemaha county, lie established the tlrst drug store in Rrownville in the summer of isfitl. He was the in si mayor and second postmaster of that town. In led# he founded the Democrat, the name of which was afterward changed to the Granger. Ho was a mem her of the territorial legislature in IHUI and again in ihu;* u, and was surgeon in the army under Col. Furnas tie has passed most ol ins life since l83o in Brown-ville.The funeral services were held at Hit! residence of Marian Maker Tuesday, Oct. 12th, at IS o'clock a. in. The services were conducted by Hav. C. II. Gilmore. Furnas made a few appropriate remarks, in response to a request of th» deceased, who a ah') t lime before his death requested that some friend say a kind word at his grave. Mr. Furnas spoke feelingly of his long aeqaiiilance and intimate association with the deceased, and of his many noble qualities.Dr. Holladay had a wide acquaintance throughout the state. For many years ho had a large practice, but of late years has dons very little. He made a Hue address at the eld settlers' picnic held at Nemaha August 7th, in which he spoke of the fact that the old settlers were fast passing over to the other shore, and said; “A little while longer and the last old settler must he laid away. Who will be the next old landmark removed from the hand of old settlers? Rut let us hope there will be a reunion on the other shore of the old settlers of Nemaha county, and that all will be hnppy in the life beyond. No separations there, no old age no w eeping, no tears, no suffering —all will be peace mid rest, and instead of the log cabin will lie mansions the grandeur of which defies descrip, tion and the imagination of mamThe deceased leaves a daughter,Mrs. Helen Robinson, and a brother, both of whom live in Chicago, The latter was present at the funeral.
