THE NEWS OF THE CTEY.A KECOUHT DBKANDSOIn the Cate of B0U1 Doany and PritchardStatement of Chairman Sullivan.' v It was decided thi* morning to contest1the flection of Caleb. S. Penny for mayor and James A. Pritchard for alderman in. (He Second district, and an application will be made to the circuit court this after* noon for a recount of the rotes. Chair* man Sullivan, of the Democratic city com* mittee, states that as the result of investigation, and from evidence which had ieen volunteered they were convinced that a recount wouldjshow a majority for Cot* trell of at least 140, and for Ripley over Pritchard of 36. Under these circumstances he did not propose to let the count stand without a protest and an effort to obtain a fair declaration of the actual result. There waB no question, he added, about what a recount would show unless the ballots had been destroyed. Using ashed whether the application for a recount was made with the , approval of Kr. Cottrell, he saidit was, and that although that gentleman at first objected'to making a contest, he had changed his mind when the evidence waB presented to him showing the good grounds which existed for alleging fraud and incorrect count.
