After 600 YearsA PEOPLE were dancing in the streets of Louvain, Belgium, one night last month because six stalwart townsmen hjid avenged a defeat suffered at the hands of John III., of Brabant, a Brussels War Lord, in 1311. Ever since, a symbolic “Tree of Victory had proudly stood in the Rue dc Marais, in Brussels, to the undying shame of Louvain.There was a carnival dance round the Tree and when the merriment was at its height the stalwart men of Louvain grabbed the tree, placed it on a lorry, and drove at break-neck speed to Louvain.
