Tho Champion Snako Story.While out hunting on last Tuesday, ■ Mr. Richard Imcs discovered a largo cave in tho sido of a hill, under a rock, and while opposito, heard the squealing of pigs inside. lie stepped closo to tho mouth of tho cave to investigate the matter, and to his horror saw protruding tho head of an immense rattlesnake with a pig In its mouth. Ho summoned a number of neighbors with guns and pitch forks, who built n largo Arc in tho mouth of tho cavo in ordor to drivo tho snake out. In ■ about an hour they commenced pouring out over the burning coals. As they approached in sight tho parties fired upon them from tho top of the cliff. They continued to pour out un- ' til tho surrounding woods, for twenty yards square, was literally covered ’with dead and live snakes. They killed three hundred and ten, but many made their escape. Tho largest one killed—a male—was ten feet long, and measured around tho body two and a half feet. Tho next largest—a female —was seven feet long, aud measured one foot around tlo body. Tho largest snakes havo been presorted in nlco-'hol and will bo on oxhibitidn at our fair free of charge. The snake referred to had ono hundred and ten rattles. The cave was literally filled with tho heads and bones of Bheep, pigs,, Ac., which had been captured from the surrounding country.
